Oleksandr Korniienko, together with Members of Parliament and representatives of the Government, took part in a meeting with the heads of regional councils from all regions of Ukraine. The event became an important platform for dialogue aimed at taking regional positions into account in the shaping of state policy.
The meeting focused, in particular, on preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter period and the energy situation, Ukraine’s financial stability, as well as ensuring social stability in local communities.
“It is important that, despite all challenges, regional councils continue to uphold their oath and promptly support the decisions of military-civil administrations. This unity is our strategic asset. A regional council is not only about the distribution of resources, but above all about political responsibility and clear signals for the entire region,” stressed Oleksandr Korniienko.
At the same time, he stressed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is working on a number of legislative initiatives, including those aimed at ensuring quorum requirements in small communities, delineating powers between different levels of government, and regulating the possibility of additional payments for local self-government employees within the framework of international projects and international technical assistance programmes.
According to him, these issues are important for further strengthening regional governance and improving its effectiveness under wartime conditions.
“The russian aggressor may try to destroy our cities, but it will never destroy Ukrainian local self-government,” concluded Oleksandr Korniienko, thanking colleagues for effective cooperation between the central and local levels of government, for continuing their work even under the extremely difficult conditions of war, particularly in frontline regions, and for ensuring the resilience of the regions.
