Activists of the public organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan said that representation of women in the parliament of the country equals to almost 17 per cent, and in the municipal authorities – 27 per cent. They noted that the country welcomes active involvement of women into government institutions at the level of state.
Representatives of the Azerbaijan Women’s Movement told that NGOs, dealing with gender policy issues, actively participate in refining local legislation and political parties consider their expert ideas. Combating violence and liquidation of all forms of women’s discrimination are among the priorities of their activity.
Representatives of the Inter-faction Union “Equal Possibilities” noted that Ukraine, unfortunately, is behind not only many European countries, but also behind former Soviet republics in terms of women’s presence in government. “The problem of active involvement of women in politics is one of the priority issues, our inter-faction Union is dealing with,” noted the co-chairperson of the Inter-faction Union Iryna Herashchenko.
Participants of the meeting on the part of Ukrainian spoke about real examples of cooperation with the public sector.
Possible cooperation and experience exchange in the international spheres, particularly, in liquidation of all forms of women’s discrimination were discussed during the meeting.
People’s deputies of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko, Oleksandr Kuzhel, Olesya Orobets and Borys Tarasiuk participated in the meeting on the part of the Inter-faction Union.
The Azerbaijani delegation included representatives of NGOs specializing in gender issues, particular, in protection of women’s rights and support to active participation of women in politics.
