The Parties discussed issues regarding European integration of Ukraine in the context of the forthcoming EU-Ukraine Summit that will be held on February 25, in Brussels and the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, in November this year. The Committee’s working plans were also discussed.
The Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland supported the course of Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU. He emphasized "the need of decisive actions and specific results in regard to implementation on the part of Ukraine the EU criteria, set out in the conclusions of the European Council (12/10/2012) concerning politically-motivated persecution of the opposition and selective justice in Ukraine, as well as reforming of both election legislation and the judicial and law enforcement systems of our state".
“There is little time left – the following 2-3 months. The EU wants to see specific actions on the part of Ukraine,” Simon Smith stated.
Hryhoriy Nemyria informed Mr. Ambassador about intention of the Verkhovna Rada to adopt the statement regarding conclusion of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and about state of its preparation. He hopes that this statement will be adopted by constitutional majority of our Parliament before the beginning of the Summit.
In this regard, the Parties exchanged their opinions concerning the priorities of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the Great Britain in the context of the Association agenda.
The results and outcomes of the visit of the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fulle last week were also discussed.
