The bill (reg.No.11226), submitted by the people’s deputy V.Moisyk, suggests amending article 158 of the Criminal Code, increasing responsibility of a member of the electoral commission or referendum commission for committing respective crimes up to 20 years of imprisonment.
The bill stipulates supplementing article 158 with part 18.
The author explained the need to increase criminal responsibility, saying that “electoral fraud committed by a member of the electoral commission or referendum commission is one of the most dangerous infringements on the right of people to determine constitutional order”.
Committee members upheld the bill, adoption of which, they believe, will refine the mechanism of counteraction to violations of citizens’ electoral rights.
