The First Vice-Speaker also thanked Italy for its steady and long-term support of Ukraine in the difficult times of the war with russia. He informed the guests about the security situation in Ukraine, in particular, about the latest russian attacks on our cities — terror against Ukrainians, warehouses and port infrastructure. "The enemy is constantly changing its tactics. And the last few days have seen an unprecedented attack on our country's port infrastructure and grain storage facilities. Such actions of the aggressor country can have serious consequences for global food security," stressed Oleksandr Korniienko and noted that Italy is one of the countries that has been systematically helping to protect Ukrainian skies.
Therefore, he called for increased support in this vital issue for peaceful Ukrainian cities and citizens. The parties also touched upon Ukraine's European integration and Euro-Atlantic progress, in which Italy, according to Oleksandr Korniienko, constantly supports all decisions for our country. "This includes a large financial package and the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU. We know that Italy, the Italian Parliament and the Italian people support us. We also thank you for the statement on Ukraine's accession to NATO before the Vilnius Summit. We must continue to move in this direction together," Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized.
The parties also discussed the issue of Ukraine's reconstruction. The First Vice-Speaker thanked Italy for holding a major conference on Ukraine's recovery in Rome in April, which raised important issues of our country's future, including investment in Ukraine's reconstruction and development both now and after the war. "This year we have created a fairly effective recovery infrastructure.
We are also working on a number of laws that will allow businesses to feel more confident in Ukraine. Therefore, we invite Italy to join the process of rebuilding specific communities with specific projects," Oleksandr Korniienko called on his Italian colleagues.
