During 2015 the Committee held working meetings and meetings of working groups to consider the issues aimed at the implementation of the Coalition Agreement, the first paragraph of which provides for "the Reform of the system of national security and defense," and the Plan of legislative ensuring of reforms in Ukraine respectively.
Among the activities carried out last year are Committee hearings on the topic "Ways to increase motivation of citizens for serving their military service in the composition of units taking part in the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine," held on January 31. The participants discussed the issues related to determination of factors stimulating the citizens to voluntarily join military service, and also eliminate factors that at present create obstacles in carrying out of mobilization of reservists.
On July 17, 2015 the Committee hearing was held on the topic "Territorial defence in the times of hybrid war." The event was participated by MPs, representatives of state government bodies, academic institutions and NGOs.
During the hearing they discussed the influence of tools and methods of hybrid war on the national security of Ukraine and organization of national defense; the state of legal and organizational support for the tasks of territorial defense as well as proposals concerning improving the legal regulation in territorial defense; development of the institute of service in the military reserve to prepare citizens of Ukraine to perform tasks of territorial defense in the administrative-territorial units, systematic training of reservists for making up of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s and other military formations’ personnel; ways of motivating citizens to serve in the military reserve as well as proposals concerning improving the organization of service in the military reserve. The hearing participants also discussed the issues of organizational and legal formation of the national system of assisting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations as part of the defense of Ukraine.
On October 28, 2015, at a joint initiative of the Committees on National Security and Defence, on Foreign Affairs, and on European Integration, held was a joint expanded meeting devoted to the issue of ensuring the foreign economic activity of Ukraine in the context of adequate protection of national interests in defense and security fields.
During the event they analyzed the current state of the international cooperation of Ukraine with leading countries of the world and international organizations contributing to strengthening of the defense capacity of our country during the Russian aggression. The main attention was paid to effective coordination of the international cooperation among the state government bodies of Ukraine and foreign partners on the path of strengthening the defense potential of our country.
In 2015 the Committee held meetings with foreign delegations. Thus, on January 13, 2015 there was a meeting with a delegation of American think tanks (the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Atlantic Council's Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center, the Brookings Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Initiative).
On March 18 last year, the Committee members met with a delegation of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defense, headed by MEP, Chairperson of the Subcommittee Anna Fotyga.
On March 26, 2015 the Committee held a meeting with a group of deputies of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic headed by Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Defense of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Ivan Gabal.
On April 28, 2015, the Committee members met with Bundestag member Hans-Peter Bartels and military attache of the Embassy of Germany Christian Farkonde.
