The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko paid a working visit to Zhytomyr region.

Together with MP Arsenii Pushkarenko, the First Vice Speaker laid flowers and paid tribute to the fallen defenders of Ukraine on the Alley of Heroes in the village of Radovel, Korosten district. "I start every working visit to cities or villages in Ukraine by honouring the memory of the fallen heroes of the community. I bow low and honour each and every one of those who went to defend our country and gave their lives," said Oleksandr Korniienko.

According to him, one of the goals of the trip to Radovel was to hand over electric scooters to social workers in the Korosten district. The First Deputy Speaker noted the importance of the work of social workers who support veterans, families of the dead and missing, the elderly, youth and young families on a daily basis. "Many big things start with smaller ones and with the daily work of our social workers, who tirelessly deal with many requests from people who have changed and grown over the past four years," said Oleksandr Korniienko, thanking charitable foundations for facilitating the mobility of employees. He also emphasised the importance of cooperation between central and local authorities, remuneration reform and raising the prestige of social and public professions.

During his working visit, Oleksandr Korniienko also spoke with educators from Korosten district. They talked about education reform, the state of schools in the communities and the challenges faced by the system during the war. "For villagers, a school is not just an educational institution, but a centre of culture and community life. All changes must be made very carefully and prudently, taking into account all the risks and possible consequences," said the First Vice Speaker.

He emphasised the unprecedented increase in education funding in 2026, the increase in salaries for university teachers, the modernisation of classrooms into modern laboratories, and the importance of overcoming the shortage of qualified personnel. According to him, the success of the reforms requires a combination of state funding, local responsibility and partnership with the community, business and charitable foundations.

The First Vice Speaker thanked teachers for their daily work, recalling that he himself grew up in a teacher's family: "We must restore respect for the teaching profession - for those who form a new generation of Ukrainians."
