This is the first personal meeting between the speakers of the two countries. The parties discussed the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine, the post-war reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure and the diversification of russian energy sources.
“Ukraine and the Ukrainian people deeply appreciate the consistent bipartisan and bicameral support of the United States, especially in the face of russia’s full-scale invasion,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said in the first place.
Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to the United States for its unprecedented assistance in the military, financial and humanitarian spheres and for consolidating the international community to counter the aggressor.
In addition, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine informed Kevin McCarthy about the situation at the frontline. “Despite the enormous concentration of russian forces and means, Ukrainian soldiers continue the offensive. For further success, we need a sufficient number of weapons,” he stressed.
At the same time, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that air defence systems, artillery shells, battle tanks and armoured vehicles are the top priorities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The parties also discussed the post-war reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his belief that Ukraine’s allies, who have contributed to the Victory, will play a leading role in this process: “I believe that the United States will play a key role in this.”
Separately, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives raised the issue of Ukrainian children abducted by russia.
