‘The US’s consolidated stance on further pressing over Russia with the sanctions until Ukraine restores in full its sovereignty and territorial integrity, appeared to be of high importance,’ was the comment of Iryna Herashchenko, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in her brief summary of the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to the United States of America.
As part of the Ukraine’s delegation, led by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Iryna Herashchenko, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is staying in the USA with an official working visit.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met on June 20 with U.S. President Donald Trump. The sides had weighty deliberations on mutual economy, nuclear power, oil, gas, and coal purchases in America; renewable energy problems as well as clearly upgradeable ‘mili-tech’ interactions were also touched upon during the meeting.
A set of issues
on Crimean persistent human rights violations and the Minsk agreements being completely
disregarded by the Kremlin and SRDLO’s militants, went under much debate, too. Petro
Poroshenko underscored importance of the Minsk’s security cluster to be stuck
to by Russia and its SRDLO stooges in terms of cease-fire, removal of heavies,
providing OSCE SMM a free access over the whole territory with the border
inclusive.
The U.S.’s support in liberation of the Ukrainian hostages, held by the Russia-SRDLO joint, is of utter significance at present as the TCG’s humanitarian subgroup declares 131 Ukrainians kept captive as yet.
Within the visit, the delegation met James Norman Mattis, the Unites States Secretary of Defense. There were comprehensive discussions over the security and humanitarian situation in Donbas. The parties pointed out the need in boosting of the Trans-Atlantic unity and solidarity. The Ukrainian Head of State expressed his profound gratitude for the aid the US, as the strategic partner, has been providing to Ukraine in treatment and rehabilitation of the soldiers, in strengthening its defences, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The Secretary of Defense highlighted the progress Ukraine has made on its path to the state security and defence, having voiced a standing support to Ukraine and underlined, too, the need in retention of the sanctions against the Russian aggressor.
Cooperation in energy sector was also talked about by the President and Rick Perry, the United States Secretary of Energy during their meeting. The wide scope of the talks covered mutual nuclear power projects, extraction of energy resources in Ukraine, provision of alternative fuels, stiffening of European energy security through, for instance, modernization and development of Ukraine’s transit potential and new transport and energy projects. The parties at the meeting were at one in recognizing the project “North Stream-2” to be a threat for both Ukraine’s and Europe’s energy security.
The eventful visit’s programme of the Ukrainian delegation made it possible to have a meeting with Rex Tillerson, the United States Secretary of State. The sitting resulted in further bilateral consultations on the joint interaction and involvement of the USA in a peaceful resolution of the Donbas’s clash. Rex Tillerson confirmed the USA’s strong commitment to a peaceable Donbas and denoted the real need in further keeping of the sanctions load over Russia until Ukraine recovers its sovereignty and territorial integrity in full. A great deal of the meeting time was devoted to talks over strengthening of investment and trade cooperation of Ukraine and the U.S.; mutual security – through provision of defence weapons to Ukraine.
The visit also covered a meeting with Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. The pension reform project, further privatization in Ukraine, a sound banking system, reforming of public finance and corruption fighting hit the highlight of the sitting.
Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group, was also in the visit’s meeting line. The Ukrainian Head of State thanked Jim Yong Kim for the steady support rendered to Ukraine and informed him of the reforms conducted and the results achieved.
Once again, all the high level meetings along the visit have showed the USA’s readiness to revive the mutual collaboration between the states, and further promotion to a peaceful solution of the Donbas issue.
To enhance the interstate cooperation, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko invited American ministerial leadership to pay a visit to Ukraine.
