On April 6, the Educational Center of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the NGO "Agency for Educational Policy Development" held an online colloquium on parliamentary education for educators in Lviv region.
Opening the online colloquium, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk noted that, "unfortunately, not everyone knows what the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is as an institution, as a separate body, its functions, significance, and the role of parliament in social life in the conditions of the parliamentary-presidential republic". "We really lack a systematic parliamentary education. In fact, now together with the Educational Center, with our international partners we are working on the development and approval of a comprehensive parliamentary education program. And I believe that joint efforts will yield good results," the Vice Speaker emphasized.
Igor Kohut, USAID RADA Program Director, also addressed the educators of the Lviv Region with a welcoming speech.
During the colloquium, which was attended by more than 120 representatives of the region, a comprehensive program of parliamentary education was presented.
Mariia Savina, an expert on parliamentary education and involvement of citizens of the EU-UNDP Parliamentary Reform Office, presented the joint developments.
The program aims to raise awareness of the work of the Parliament, tools for interaction between citizens and parliament and participation in the legislative process. It is designed for pupils, students and adults.
The event was the culmination of a two-day program of the Days of Parliament in Lviv Region, held in partnership with Internews-Ukraine as part of an expert and organizational support project aimed at strengthening the communication capacity of the Ukrainian Parliament, implemented with the support of the USAID RADA Program and implemented by the East Europe Foundation.
