Parliament begins its work after the ‘lockdown’ with new challenges facing the country, which people expect to solve immediately. “First of all, it is a clear understanding of what is happening with tariffs for the population. The need for transparent pricing for gas, electricity and utilities. And this should not be a temporary action, but a strategic vision of the Government. Because fair tariffs are those that the family budget of most citizens can afford to pay,” Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk emphasized during the Conciliation Council of Deputy Factions and Groups.
The second strategic issue is the vaccination of citizens against COVID-19. “Since last year, I have been asking the Prime Minister the same question – what about the vaccine for Ukraine? I am convinced that mass free vaccination of Ukrainians from COVID-19 should be a top priority for the Verkhovna Rada and the Government. Moreover, it is the personal responsibility of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers,” Olena Kondratiuk emphasized.
She noted that today the leaders in immunization are those countries whose governments have been able to effectively negotiate with manufacturers and pre-order sufficient stocks of vaccines from COVID-19.
“More than 60 countries in Europe and the world have already started vaccination against coronavirus, distributing more than 63 million doses of the vaccine among citizens. The rate of immunization in some countries is impressive in its scale,” noted Olena Kondratiuk
Olena Kondratiuk asked the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during the report to the Verkhovna Rada on January 26 to answer the following questions: “Why failed vaccination preparation work, who should be held personally responsible for these late and ineffective decisions, and what conclusions have been drawn”.
The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament also addressed the Prime Minister Denis Shmygal regarding the need to inform citizens about the number of vaccines that have already been contracted by the Government of Ukraine from the state budget; which manufacturers and how effective these vaccines are; what vaccine, in what quantity, with what efficiency and in what terms Ukraine will receive within the COVAX charity initiative.
“And most importantly - name the exact date of the start of the free coronavirus vaccination campaign in Ukraine. The answers that negotiations are underway and everything will be fine, which we have been hearing since last year, no longer suit or convince anyone. We need specifics. We, as the Verkhovna Rada, must tightly and meticulously control the Government in these aspects,” convinced Olena Kondratiuk.
