In honor of the International Day of Democracy, the Educational Center of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held an online lesson for schoolchildren from all over Ukraine.

USAID Mission Representative in Ukraine Edgar Mason welcomed the participants of the online lesson and emphasized the values of democracy in today's fast-paced world.

More than 150 active teenagers of 8-11 grades took part in the lesson.

The aim of the lesson was to find out the value of democracy; to identify the key features of a democratic society and to form own judgment about democracy.

The lesson was conducted using interactive formats and active involvement of all participants. During the online lesson, participants learned about the concept and principles of democracy, especially: what is democracy, the culture of democracy (how each of us can be a creator of democracy), and democracy in action (exercises and simulation games that reproduce elements of democratic cooperation in society).

The lesson was conducted by Lesya Yurchyshyn, a teacher of history, law and civic education courses, who is on the list of the best teachers in Ukraine and who knows well how to motivate teenagers to actively participate in public life. The online lesson was supported by the USAID RADA Program, implemented by the East Europe Foundation.
