The legislative act determined legal bases for organizing prosecutor's office of Ukraine, system of the prosecutor's office, status of prosecutors, order of prosecutors' self-government, as well as system and general order of ensuring activity of the prosecutor's office. Particularly, a three-level system of prosecutor's office authorities will be formed: General Prosecutor's Office, regional prosecutor's offices, and local prosecutor's offices.
The Law entrusts the prosecutor's office with the following functions:
"supporting state prosecution in the court;
representing interests of a citizen or a state in the court in cases stipulated by this Law;
monitoring adherence to the laws by authorities conducting operational investigations, inquiry, pre-trial investigation;
monitoring adherence to the laws when executing judgments in criminal cases, as well as when applying other enforcement actions connected with limiting personal freedom of citizens".
Respective amendments have been made to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of Ukraine, the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Infringements, the Code on Administrative Procedure, the laws "On state protection of court and law-enforcement bodies staff", "On military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine", "On the judicial system and status of judges", etc.
