The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniienko, paid a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, holding consecutive meetings with representatives of parliament and government.
On the first day of the visit, Oleksandr Korniienko held meetings with the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Boris Dittrich and Ingrid Johanna Maria Michon-Derkze, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The First Deputy Speaker expressed his gratitude for the support for Ukraine amid the ongoing full-scale russian aggression, and emphasised the importance of further advancing Ukrainian-Dutch relations.

Oleksandr Korniienko briefed the representatives on the current security situation, highlighting the challenges that require swift operational solutions, particularly regarding the reinforcement of defenses against missile strikes. He also underscored the vital necessity of maintaining and intensifying international support for Ukraine.

One of the key issues on the agenda was the return of civilians from russian captivity, particularly the mayors of cities occupied by the aggressor and other local self-government officials.

Ukraine’s European integration agenda was also featured as a distinct topic of discussion.

“The Verkhovna Rada remains deeply committed to European reforms and will continue to implement all necessary measures to achieve full membership in the EU. We eagerly anticipate the opening of the first cluster within the negotiation process,” stated Oleksandr Korniienko.

As part of his working visit, the First Deputy Speaker also visited the headquarters of the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine.

In the Hague, Oleksandr Korniienko met with Executive Director Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi and the representative for cooperation with Ukraine.

In particular, the parties discussed the process of documenting russian crimes and the submission of claims by citizens via ‘Diia’.

"We are continuing our active work across all international forums. Every crime must be documented, and justice must be restored. This initiative was established under the auspices of the Council of Europe and is a fundamental tool for holding the russian federation to account. For us, this is the first and essential step towards a future compensation mechanism to ensure justice for the victims," emphasised the First Deputy Speaker.

Oleksandr Korniienko also reminded that the Register accepts data on any harm, loss or damage resulting from russian aggression. The main condition is that the incident must have occurred after 24 February 2022 on the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders.

However, the Register merely collects and verifies data; it does not calculate amounts or disburse funds, as the next stage—a special compensation commission—will be responsible for the actual compensation.

Oleksandr Korniienko also took part in Liberal Partnership Days 2026 — the annual European liberal forum, which took place in The Hague on 12–13 June.

The central themes of this year’s forum were Ukraine’s European integration, security challenges and international support.

As part of a side event at the forum, the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, together with David van Weel, the Dutch Minister of Justice and Security, took part in the panel discussion "The Next Frontier: AI-Driven Defence Solutions".

The First Deputy Speaker noted that the world is changing at an unprecedented pace. In particular, Ukraine has already begun to develop a new generation of defence solutions using AI.

"Ukraine is creating a new-generation AI-driven army, where AI helps to act faster than the enemy and works towards the strategic goal set out by the President — to wear down the enemy simultaneously on the ground, in the air and in the economy," said Oleksandr Korniienko.

During the panel discussion, a presentation was given on AI-based defence solutions.

According to Oleksandr Korniienko, Ukraine possesses the world’s largest repository of real combat data from modern warfare. This unique resource enables strategic partners to access specific datasets. This will allow for more effective training of AI models and give Ukraine an even greater advantage on the battlefield, the First Deputy Speaker emphasised.

As part of Liberal Partnership Days 2026, the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held a series of bilateral meetings with European partners.

During talks with Svenja Hahn, President of the ALDE party, and the party’s vice-presidents, the parties discussed the development of inter-party cooperation and agreed to hold joint events.

Particular emphasis was placed on the role of ALDE as a reliable partner for Ukraine on its path towards European integration.

During the dialogue with Vincent Karremans, Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management, they discussed the development of cooperation, particularly in the field of technology, and expressed their gratitude for the support given to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side confirmed its readiness to share its own experience to strengthen the European partnership.

The meeting with Ruben Brekelmans, leader of the VVD parliamentary group in the Dutch House of Representatives, focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, the security and economic situation in Ukraine, and the country’s path towards European integration. Separate discussion was given to the expected opening of the first negotiation cluster, ‘Fundamentals’, and the fulfilment of the necessary commitments for EU accession.

During a conversation with Dutch Finance Minister Eelco Heinen, the parties focused on security challenges, in particular russian attacks on critical infrastructure, and also discussed increasing financial support for Ukraine and the use of frozen russian assets.

Separately, the First Deputy Speaker thanked the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Netherlands, Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, for her support for Ukraine and her leadership. The parties agreed to deepen cooperation with a focus on security and the economy, as well as support for a just and lasting peace with the participation of European partners.
