The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Members of Parliament, as well as the leadership and staff of the Parliamentary Secretariat, paid their last respects in Lviv to Ukrainian MP Stepan Kubiv. He passed away on 18 May at the age of 64.
The role of Stepan Kubiv in the development of the state was highlighted by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, who had known and worked with him for many years.
“Everyone knew him in their own way, but first and foremost he was a person who never remained indifferent — neither to the fate of Ukraine nor to those around him. For me, he was a reliable friend who always kept his word and on whom one could rely at any time. I will greatly miss his friendly pat on the shoulder, his simple question: ‘How are you?’ and his constant: ‘I have an idea, let’s meet,’” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said.
The role of Stepan Kubiv during the Revolution of Dignity was highlighted by Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk. According to her, he performed one of the most important and responsible missions and was effectively in charge of everything that was happening on the Maidan.
“He is remembered above all for his humanity, responsibility, honesty and conscientiousness. He was a great statesman who did a great deal to preserve historical memory. He published more than one historical collection about prominent figures and did this sincerely because he loved Ukraine and believed in it. Above all, he was a person with a capital ‘P’,” Olena Kondratiuk said.
Stepan Kubiv was a Member of Parliament of the 7th, 8th and 9th convocations, and held the positions of First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, and Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada. He was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity — the commander of the Headquarters of National Resistance.
A significant part of Stepan Kubiv’s life was devoted to academia: he held a PhD in Economics and taught at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic.”
In the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Stepan Kubiv worked on reforms in the financial and banking sectors and was a member of the Committee on Economic Development.
Eternal memory.
