Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk, together with 55 co-authors, registered the draft law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Honouring the Memory of Compatriots Who Perished as a Result of the Armed Aggression of the russian federation" (14144).
The purpose of the draft law is to establish a national minute of silence as a daily commemorative event in the field of national memory.
«I continue to support the public initiative 'Remember!’ It is already at the legislative level. Memory is important! Even if it is just one minute at 9 am. This is about our humanity, dignity and courage - to stop, put our hand to our hearts and remember who we live thanks to,» said Olena Kondratiuk.
According to the draft law:
- A nationwide minute of silence for compatriots killed as a result of the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine is held daily at 9 a.m.
- State authorities and local self-government bodies shall ensure that enterprises, institutions and organisations under their jurisdiction are informed of the beginning and end of the national minute of silence.
- Local self-government bodies and officials shall provide information about the beginning and end of the national minute of silence on the territory within which they exercise their powers.
«To announce a national minute of remembrance, it is possible to use warning and information systems. As it happens every morning in Lviv or Vinnytsia - on the initiative of the communities. This is not about coercion, but about an opportunity that will be guaranteed by law,» explained Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk.
According to her, the adoption of the draft law will also contribute to the further implementation of the relevant Decree of the President of Ukraine of 16.03.2022 on a national minute of silence for those killed as a result of the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine.
Olena Kondratiuk thanked the leadership of the Parliament and all the MPs who supported this initiative and co-authored the draft law.
