First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held an important online meeting with participants of the UCU 2.0 Veteran Leadership Programme, Module 2: State and Law.

The event covered a range of issues related to the functioning of the state, the legislative process, and the realisation of citizens' rights, in particular those of Ukraine's defenders.

«It was valuable to be able to communicate in a question-and-answer format. This allowed us to cover the most pressing issues that concern veterans today,» said the First Deputy Speaker, emphasising that the experience they gained in the war — above all, responsibility and leadership — is critically important for reforming the system of public administration. According to him, society has a great demand for veterans in politics.

«I am convinced that veterans can become a driving force in politics and public service,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.

The participants also discussed: civil service reform; law-making mechanisms — how laws are drafted, reviewed and adopted in practice; elections and electoral procedures, their role in ensuring citizen representation; the functioning of the party system and opportunities for political participation; tools for preventing corruption and increasing transparency in the activities of public authorities.

In addition, the First Deputy Speaker shared details of the work of the negotiating group within the framework of Ukraine's European integration process, and also focused on the issue of legislative support for the veterans' movement.

Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the event for holding this important discussion. «Special thanks to the participants for their active position, interest and understanding of state processes!» he concluded.
