Security and support for Ukraine’s EU accession remain key priorities for Poland.
That was discussed during the meeting between the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk and Sejm Vice-Marshal Monika Wielichowska.
Olena Kondratiuk expressed her gratitude to Poland for the support and strategic role as one the largest logistic hubs through which Ukraine receives American weapon assistance. She emphasised the meeting in Warsaw takes place against the backdrop of positive news about the resumption of US military aid to Ukraine.
«We are grateful to the government of Donald Tusk and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski for their proactive stance and constant appeals to the United States to resume military assistance to Ukraine and to introduce tougher sanctions against russia,» said Olena Kondratiuk.
The parties also discussed the outcomes of Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
«Unfortunately, we were unable to open accession talks due to Hungary’s position. We place our hopes in Denmark’s Presidency and Poland’s important role in overcoming the Hungarian veto. Our shared task is to launch the negotiation process by the end of this year. We cannot afford to waste precious time, as this only plays into russia’s hands,» said Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk.
Security and support for Ukraine’s EU accession remain among Poland’s top priorities, Sejm Vice-Marshal Monika Wielichowska reaffirmed. She emphasized that Poland advocates for the swift opening of EU accession negotiations with Ukraine under the first fundamental cluster.
Olena Kondratiuk and Monika Wielichowska also discussed preparations for the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025), which will take place this week in Rome, Italy. It was noted that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will also attend the event.
«Next year, another major conference is planned in Warsaw. Poland is highly interested in becoming a hub for post-war recovery, community rebuilding, and investment in Ukraine’s economy. I see great potential in this for strengthening our strategic cooperation at both the governmental and parliamentary levels,» emphasized Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk.
As co-chairs of the Ukraine–Poland Parliamentary Assembly, the participants also preliminarily agreed to hold the next Assembly meeting in Ukraine in September 2025.
