On the occasion of the Journalist's Day, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk congratulated journalists and media workers and awarded them with distinctions from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for their daily work in the wartime - for their objective coverage of events, courage, professionalism and contribution to the development of the Ukrainian media space, which today is part of our common resistance.
During the meeting the Chairman of the Parliament emphasised that journalists have remained at the epicentre of events since the first days of the war - next to those who rescue, treat and fight. They work on the frontline and in the rear, and some have joined the Security and Defence Forces to defend the country with arms in hand.
«Thanks to you the world sees Ukraine and hears its voice. It understands what the aggressor is capable of - and how resilient Ukrainian people are,» - Ruslan Stefanchuk said. He outlined that the work of a journalist in a wartime is not only about recording facts, but also about conveying the spirit of resistance, humanity and the power of truth.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada thanked the journalists for their courage, endurance and integrity, «for every material, every story, every truth that breaks through the noise of sirens, explosions and russian manipulations». He also paid tribute to the fallen journalists - «those who died with a camera, a recorder or a weapon in their hands».
«Journalism is not just a profession. It is the conscience of the era. As long as there are those who tell the truth, the aggressor's lies will not have the last word,» Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
This year, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine awarded representatives of various areas of Ukrainian journalism - from parliamentary journalists to those who document the war on the frontline through photos, videos and reports.
Among those honoured are journalists working in frontline regions and providing communities with important information during shelling; analysts explaining complex military and economic processes to Ukrainian and global audiences; and journalists working on humanitarian issues and maintaining communication between regions affected by the war.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his hope that in the future the Professional Day of Ukrainian Journalists will become a real holiday - without sirens and losses, but with the same honesty and resilience that is the norm of journalistic work today.
