Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, took part in the EnhancingPublic Participation conference, where he emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in parliamentary processes, the need to strengthen communication and transparency within the Verkhovna Rada, and the crucial role of parliaments in Ukraine's European integration.
Oleksandr Korniienko highlighted that despite martial law, the Verkhovna Rada continues to work uninterruptedly, ensuring transparency in decision-making and involving journalists in the legislative process. He also noted that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has significantly expanded its interaction with society: "In recent years, we have strengthened communication through social networks. Parliamentary committees work as openly as possible – experts, the public, and activists are involved in their meetings. We develop legislative initiatives in close cooperation with citizens who represent the interests of Ukrainians in various areas."
Oleksandr Korniienko paid special attention to the issue of European integration, emphasizing that Ukraine aspires to become a member of the EU by 2030. "We understand that it is an ambitious goal, but the parliament is doing everything necessary for the rapid and high-quality approximation of Ukrainian legislation to EU norms. We work in 64 working groups with civil society representatives and experts to effectively implement reforms," said the First Vice-Speaker. He highlighted that Ukraine is committed to active cooperation with EU member states, and the parliament plays a key role in implementing the necessary reforms.
Concluding his speech, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed gratitude to international partners for their support for Ukraine and emphasized the importance of further cooperation.
