“Ukraine is grateful to Switzerland for agreeing to host the inaugural Global Peace Summit. We highly appreciate the efforts made to prepare this major event,” said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in his speech to the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation: “We all want the world order to be restored and the perpetrators of crimes to be punished.”

Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that the Global Peace Summit is a platform of opportunities for Ukraine and other countries that value democracy to clearly demonstrate their support for Ukraine, and thus their support for international order and law.

At the same time, he thanked Switzerland for its decision to fully join the EU sanctions. “This decision has shown that being neutral does not mean remaining indifferent,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, expressing his gratitude for the humanitarian support provided.

“This is very important for us because Ukraine clearly knows that it is not alone in this war. You empathise and act. You are acting to ensure that Ukraine has the opportunity and chance to defend its most important right – the right to choose,” said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, adding that this right to choose means being together in a single European family, being together in a single great Europe, being united by common values and common principles.

In addition, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed that Switzerland can play an important role in the investigation of war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of genocide committed by russia against Ukrainians.

He expressed his gratitude to Switzerland for supporting the international compensation mechanism for Ukraine: “It is very important for Ukraine that there is justice in the war. And justice means that the one who caused the damage – putin and the russian federation – must pay for it.”

“russia cynically destroys residential buildings and critical infrastructure of our country every day,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, addressing his colleagues on the need to rebuild Ukraine “right now”.

“This war is no longer even a war for principles and values. This is a war for how our next generations will develop. The future will depend on the winner in this war,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said in conclusion.
