Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, joined the discussion of cooperation with international partners in the field of preventing and combating corruption at the All-Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Forum "Integrity is the Future of Ukrainian Statehood".
First of all, the First Vice-Speaker focused on the restoration of the anti-corruption infrastructure, which had been on hold since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. He noted that this includes the resumption of asset declarations and the return to normal functioning of all relevant bodies.
"This is an important step, as the public expects real results in the fight against corruption. To achieve this, the authorities at all levels must act in the same direction," said Oleksandr Korniienko.
In addition, he stressed that Ukraine is joining the European Union at a very difficult time for the Union itself, which will raise serious demands and questions to Ukraine.
"We will consider each stage of negotiations and case individually. But first and foremost, we will always prioritise the national interest. We must be prepared to update our legislation and find certain compromises with the European one," the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine concluded.
The panel "Interaction with International Partners in Preventing and Combating Corruption" was also attended by the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen and Head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Ukraine Harsheth Virk.
