During his working visit to London, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, Sir Lindsey Goyle.
First of all, the First Vice-Speaker expressed gratitude for the timely and important decision, namely, the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people by the House of Commons: “This is a powerful step towards justice and responsibility. It is a part of our history and memory.”
In addition, Oleksandr Korniienko informed his colleague about the work in the direction of the Global South and expressed his expectations for cooperation in this area.
The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also noted that if the United Kingdom joins the countries that support Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, it will be a powerful step of support. He said that the majority of Ukrainians support Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
“Ukraine must win, fully restoring its territorial integrity, and russia must be held accountable for the unprovoked war and return the abducted children,” the First Vice Speaker stressed, noting that deportation is a sign of genocide. He invited the United Kingdom to join the work on the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported to russia.
At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that it is very important to improve relations with the United Kingdom in order to develop interparliamentary cooperation.
“The victory of our country is about peace and security not only in Ukraine but also abroad. The whole world must work together. We must be united not only to repel aggression, but also to overcome all its terrible consequences,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The meeting was also attended by Dmytro Natalukha, the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development, Co-Chairman of the Parliamentary Group on Interparliamentary Relations with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Lesia Vasylenko, the Member of the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management, Co-Chairman of the Parliamentary Group on Interparliamentary Relations with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Aliona Shkrum, the Member of the Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy.
