The mural was created on one of the administrative buildings of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and is dedicated to the memory of all those who died during the war. The mural depicts the Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Matsiievskyi, who was shot by the russians after saying: “Glory to Ukraine”.

The Chief of Staff of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Viacheslav Shtuchnyi noted that the mural is a tribute to all the heroes who defend Ukraine every day and give their lives for its independence and territorial integrity. “We must always remember the feat of each of our heroes and heroines who, at all costs, bring Ukraine’s victory over the cruel russian aggressor closer. And this memory must be immortalized from generation to generation,” the Chief of Staff emphasized.

The author of the mural is a French artist Christian Guemy, known under the pseudonym C215. During an official visit to the French Republic in January 2023, the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine visited a photo exhibition of Christian Guemy’s works presented in the building of the National Assembly of the French Republic. It was there that a joint idea to create a mural in Kyiv emerged.

This is not Christian Guemy’s first work in Ukraine. He has previously created street art in Lviv, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, and the liberated towns of Bucha, Hostomel, and Irpin in the Kyiv region.
