Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, joined the webinar “Approximation of National Legislation to EU Law: Key Lessons from Recent Accession Experience”.
During the event, the participants discussed the peculiarities of the process of approximation of national legislation and related challenges, the impact of the EU acquis on the legal and political dimensions and considered the case of Ukraine as an example of a gradual accession process.
“Practical improvement and enhancement of the competences of public servants in European law is an important component of Ukraine’s European integration,” said the First Vice Speaker, stressing that the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which enhances the institutional capacity of the Parliament, helps in this process.
“We need to improve our competence in European law. After all, we have a very serious task – fast and high-quality European integration,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.
At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine is going through this process in the context of a full-scale war: “But joint work and practical approach bring us closer to the goal.”
In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to MEP Michael Gahler and his colleagues for their cooperation and to the European Parliament for its continued support of Ukraine in the process of European integration.
