On the first day of the unprovoked full-scale war of the russian federation against Ukraine, February 24, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine gathered for a plenary session and approved the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 64/2022 “On the introduction of martial law in Ukraine”.
Since then, the Parliament of Ukraine has met 46 times in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to conduct plenary activities.
Since February 24, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine:
considered 825 items on the agenda;
adopted 384 laws in total, including 50 in new versions;
voted on 33 ratifications and 15 denunciations.
The Parliament adopted about 100 legislative acts directly aimed at countering the armed aggression of the russian federation, including 9 statements and 24 appeals to the international community in this regard. In the field of European integration, 39 laws have already been adopted, 31 bills have been adopted as a basis.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted all the necessary laws to implement the recommendations of the European Commission regarding Ukraine’s application for EU membership.
Since February 24, 2022, the committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine have held 799 meetings to carry out legislative activities, considering 4305 issues.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s leadership also paid intensive and important visits to European and international countries to bring Ukraine’s victory closer, in particular, to inform and promote such issues as Ukraine's movement towards membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, the establishment of a special tribunal for ussian war criminals and senior russian officials, compensation by russia for the damage caused to Ukraine, the expulsion of the aggressor country from international organizations, and the continuation of military, financial and other assistance to Ukraine.
In particular, during the year of martial law, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk made 14 official visits, holding a large number of fruitful meetings, addressing national parliaments and participating in international conferences.
During the year of the full-scale invasion, world leaders have repeatedly expressed their support for Ukraine’s struggle against the brutal russian aggressor. In particular, there were 26 visits by the heads of national parliaments and their deputies, and 28 by delegations of national parliaments and international parliamentary organizations.
At the same time, more than 20 foreign representatives of foreign countries addressed the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people from the rostrum.
The Parliament of Ukraine quickly reoriented its work to a military focus, responded to challenges in a timely manner, adopting extremely relevant and necessary wartime laws aimed at eliminating and overcoming the consequences of russia’s military aggression against Ukraine as soon as possible.
