The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with a member of the German Bundestag, Co-chairman of the Union 90/Greens party Omid Nouripour.
First of all, the First Vice-Speaker thanked Omid Nouripour personally and the Union 90/Greens party for “remaining the leader and engine of German support for Ukraine”.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine, the issue of reconstruction, support for the peace formula, which is a plan for a quick end to the war, restoration of world order and stability in the region, as well as Ukraine’s steadfast position on European integration and its strategic goal of NATO membership.
“We need weapons to defend ourselves, to de-occupy, to preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” emphasized Oleksandr Korniienko. He also emphasized that Ukraine can no longer remain in the “gray” security zone between NATO and russia.
“Ukrainians appreciate Germany's comprehensive assistance. The level of support among the German population is inspiring,” said the First Deputy, adding that he sees the willingness of German citizens to help Ukraine despite the economic problems in the European Union and the world at large.
“We clearly understand that the initiative of the Green Party in these matters has helped to shift the position of the German Social Democrats and Chancellor Olaf Scholz,” Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude.
In addition, he welcomed Germany’s support for the idea of establishing a special tribunal for the crime of russian aggression: “An independent international special tribunal is necessary to bring russia’s top political and military leadership to justice for the war of aggression in the center of Europe.”
For his part, Omid Nouripour, Co-chairman of the Union 90/Greens party, emphasized that for his party, “Ukraine is a model of the struggle for freedom, independence, dignity and sovereignty: “Ukraine can show that it is worthy of being a representative of European values.” Members of the German delegation also noted that they admire the courage of the Ukrainian people and support their struggle.
“Together we will achieve the goal of defeating aggression and ensuring peace,” summarized Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The meeting was also attended by the members of the Ukrainian Parliament: Co-Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Interparliamentary Relations with the Federal Republic of Germany Serhii Taruta, the Member of the Parliamentary Group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Interparliamentary Relations with the Federal Republic of Germany Inna Sovsun and the Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Yehor Chernev.
