The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met in Warsaw with the Speaker of the Sejm of Poland Elzbieta Witek.
According to her, such meetings are one of the components of interparliamentary diplomacy, which today is an important factor in Ukraine’s fight against russian aggression.
“It is obvious that now we need to unite the efforts of our parliaments in the face of a common enemy, because the aggression of russia, which is a terrorist country, is also an attack on parliamentary democracy. Therefore, joint actions of the parliaments, especially on two urgent issues – the establishment of the International Tribunal and the soonest possible reparations from russia are the priority tasks for us,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
She reminded that yesterday in the Sejm the speakers of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia signed a joint Declaration with ten clear points on the immutability of support for Ukraine and the need for a joint response to security and geopolitical challenges in Europe.
“Our friends and partners agreed to unite the efforts of parliamentary diplomacy to strengthen sanctions against russia and provide Ukraine with further military, economic and humanitarian support. The need to develop the parliamentary dimension of the Three Seas Initiative and the Crimean Platform was emphasized,” the Vice-Speaker said.
During the meeting with Elzbieta Witek, the parties discussed the outcome of this very positive meeting, the involvement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the implementation of joint initiatives with the parliaments of Poland and the Baltic States and how to join this initiative of the four parliaments.
“Together with our partners we must do everything in our power for the victory of Ukraine,” said the Speaker of the Sejm of Poland Elzbieta Witek.
In her turn, Olena Kondratiuk informed the Speaker of the Sejm of Poland about the terrible consequences and victims of the russian terrorist missile attack on a multi-storey residential building in Dnipro.
“I thank Poland for its leadership in providing Ukraine with Leopard tanks and efforts to create an international coalition to supply tanks for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I appealed to the Sejm of Poland to facilitate, following the example of Estonia, the development and implementation of a legal mechanism for the confiscation of frozen russian assets to compensate Ukrainians for the losses caused to them. russia must pay for its aggression today because we do not have time to wait for years for reparations,” the Vice-Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament called on her Polish colleagues.
Olena Kondratiuk noted that the united efforts of parliamentary diplomacy of the parliaments of Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic States can make an even greater contribution to the approaching victory of Ukraine on this front.
