The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with the delegation of the Parliamentary Group of the Riigikogu of Estonia on Parliamentary Relations with Ukraine.

The main discussed issues were the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people, the terrorist regime of russia, the restoration of Ukraine’s infrastructure and interparliamentary cooperation.

First of all, the First Vice-Speaker expressed gratitude to the Republic of Estonia for recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people back in 1993: “Unfortunately, now russia does not stop and continues to commit genocide”.

In addition, Olexandr Korniienko stressed the urgent need to support and assist Ukraine in providing high-voltage autotransformers and generators in connection with the shelling of energy infrastructure by the russian federation.

“We do not know how many more missiles and shelling will be on the territory of Ukraine, but each time we will need more support and assistance to restore the energy sector and rebuild the state,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament.

“I am pleased that we cooperate so much, see each other and always exchange views,” the First Vice Speaker emphasized, thanking the representatives of Estonia for “taking care” of the restoration of Zhytomyr region: “I am grateful for the organization of the Forum on Business and Reconstruction of Ukraine, which will tentatively take place in January-February 2023 in Tallinn,” he added.

At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed hope that “discussions on the next objects for 2023 will already take place and the work planned for 2022 will have to be effective.” “We must focus on the restoration of critical facilities for people’s lives, the Fast Recovery plan for the rapid restoration of social infrastructure and the passage of the autumn-winter period,” Oleksandr Korniienko said, inviting Estonia to take an active part in this process.

He also thanked Estonia for “political work and decisions”. In particular, we are talking about the adoption by the Riigikogu of Estonia on April 21, 2022 of the statement “On war crimes and genocide of the russian federation in Ukraine” and on October 18 by an absolute majority of votes – a statement condemning the annexation of the territory of Ukraine and declaring the russian regime terrorist.

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized that 10% of the Estonian Parliament was present at the meeting: “We perceive it as another manifestation of Estonian solidarity with the Ukrainian people who heroically resist the russian invasion”.
