During his working visit, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, met with the Chairman of the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament, Stephane Sejourne.

The Speaker of Parliament thanked for sincere support and solidarity to Ukraine not only in words but also in decisions made by the European Parliament – the first of all international institutions of this level to respond to the war in Ukraine.

"The main purpose of my working visit is honest and open meetings with colleagues to discuss the issue of obtaining Ukraine's candidate status for the European Union," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

He also stressed that June 24 is crucial for Ukraine because on this day, "Ukraine should receive a solid message from a united Europe for Ukrainians."

The Speaker of the Parliament noted that during his working trips to Germany and France, he became aware of the importance of open communication between parliamentarians: "We discussed that the parliament does not influence everything, but I would say otherwise – the parliament can do everything."

"It is crucial for Ukraine to gain candidate status in the context of a turning point in the war," said Ruslan Stefanchuk, adding that Ukraine still urgently needs significant support from the EU: in the provision of military weapons, firm sanctions policy, and financial support.

The head of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament, Stephane Sejourne, assured that the European Parliament would remain on Ukraine's side until a joint victory over the aggressor and would continue to support with all possible resources.

"Ukraine is paving its way and is a real fan of the European Union and is moving in this direction like an icebreaker," Ruslan Stefanchuk concluded.
