On the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv from the Nazi occupiers, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk together with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy laid flowers in the Hall of Memory of the Monument – Museum of the Liberation of Kyiv.
The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov, and Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov.
“On November 6, 1943, one of the most tragic periods in the history of the capital of Ukraine ended - the Nazi occupation, which lasted 778 days. At the cost of great human losses, Kyiv was liberated from the Nazi occupiers. The National Museum-Reserve ‘Battle for Kyiv in 1943’ is a very symbolic place, which tells about the events of autumn 1943, forcing the Dnieper and the creation of the Lutsk bridgehead, about the course of the Kyiv offensive operation,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that “the museum preserves the memory of Ukrainian heroes who, sparing neither their strength nor their lives, fought for the independence and freedom of the Ukrainian people.” A minute of silence was observed in memory of the fallen liberators of Kyiv.
“To those who died during the battles for Kyiv, and to those who survived, we owe everything we have. We, our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren… - will never stop thanking Ukrainian heroes for giving us the future,” Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
“Heroes do not die. They will live forever in our memory,” he added.
