Ukraine is grateful to Luxembourg for its steadfast and unwavering stance on assessing the consequences of Russia's armed aggression against our country. This was stated by Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov during the meeting with President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Fernand Etgen.
"We appreciate the fact that Luxembourg has consistently supported and co-authored all Resolutions of the UN General Assembly on the Ukrainian issue in the context of Russian armed aggression in Donbas and the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea," said Dmytro Razumkov.
The Speaker of the Parliament noted that the deoccupation of the peninsula is a priority for Ukraine. "The situation in Crimea continues to deteriorate in many areas of life: from militarization to violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as long-term threats to the region's environmental security," he said.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada also invited the delegation of the Chamber of Deputies to visit Ukraine as part of the strengthening of the Inter-Parliamentary dialogue. "I hope that the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy will continue to support Ukraine's efforts to restore its territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders," said the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Dmytro Razumkov also added that Ukraine supports Luxembourg's presidency in the UN Human Rights Council in 2022-2024.
According to the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, relations between our countries have been developing rapidly recently. "Luxembourg is among the top ten countries in terms of investments in Ukraine from EU countries. In the first nine months of last year, almost $ 1.2 billion in direct investment was received," Dmytro Razumkov said.
According to him, the Verkhovna Rada makes decisions that will help attract investment. "Within the walls of the Ukrainian Parliament, a number of bills were adopted to attract additional investment from foreign countries, I hope, and from Luxembourg too," said Dmytro Razumkov.
The Speaker of the Parliament also noted that Ukraine still needs to change a lot, in particular, at the level of legislation, in order to approach the standards of the European Union in various areas of the economy.
In addition, Dmytro Razumkov stressed the danger of completing the construction of the 'Nord Stream-2' gas pipeline.
"Unfortunately, we know very well how such projects end and how the so-called energy project becomes an element of pressure," said the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, adding that 'Nord Stream-2' could become such an element of pressure.
"Ukraine is a reliable transit country for Russian gas to the EU, but unfortunately, we cannot call Russia a reliable energy supplier," he said.
As reported, the Chaiperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is on a working visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
