“A rapid leap has already been made by the Verkhovna Rada towards securing gender equality,” -- Dmytro Razumkov
The Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov participated in the third Ukrainian Women's Congress and spoke within the framework of the discussion platform “Gender Dimension of Reforms in Ukraine. International Trends of the Equal Opportunities Policy ”.
The Speaker of the Parliament noted that the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation had already made a rapid leap towards ensuring gender equality among MPs. “In the last convocation, there were only 12% of women, while now we can see a ‘mirror figure’ - 21%. It is a serious indicator, but I am sure that generally speaking women's balance in policy is even greater,” he said.
Dmytro Razumkov also emphasized that women always made important decisions and were participants of big politics.
“Around 20% of VRU committees are currently headed by women, and we can see a direct correlation with the total number of female colleagues,” the politician then emphasized.
The speaker also stated that the tendencies towards increasing gender equality would be enshrined in Ukraine’s electoral code, which had been sent by the President for revision.
“If we are following the path that many European countries have already traveled, then we should reach the ‘40-to-60’ ratio at the least,” the speaker said in conclusion.
“We are not fighting against someone, but for a better world and new opportunities for everybody,” – Olena Kondratiuk
The third Ukrainian Women's Congress started in Kyiv. The event was opened by the congress initiator, the vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk.
“I want to draw attention of everyone who is looking narrowly to the goals of our women's congress. We are not fighting, not having designs against - we are united by a deep conviction that we ought to make this world a better place by establishing equal opportunities,” O.Kondratiuk emphasized.
She also opposed a variety of back-door games and ‘fixed’ bargains capable of destroying the efficiency and performance of companies, firms, corporations, institutions, and governing bodies. In her opinion, it is necessary to work together for the equality of men and women to become a truly social rule and common practice in Ukraine.
The congress has congregated seven hundred odd participants and 90 rapporteurs.
The event is also attended by the VRU Chairman Dmytro Razumkov and Ukraine’s first lady Olena Zelenska.
