Plenary week’s to-do list

Andriy Parubiy: This week, one of the highest issues of the Verkhovna Rada's agenda there will be abolishing the e-declaration procedure for civil (liberties) activists.

Opening the Conciliation Board meeting on Monday, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine A.Parubiy informed that he had finally been given for signature the draft resolutions, prepared by the Committee, voted before.

These are parliament’s resolutions on urgent measures for implementation of the international legal responsibility of the Russian Federation for the armed aggression against Ukraine, and a statement concerning the non-recognition by Ukraine of the legitimacy of the Russian presidential elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine - the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

On Tuesday, the House will have a cluster of issues on home rule (local self-government) needful to complete the decentralization reform. Then there will be a set of environmental policy issues.

Ratification matters will come on Wednesday by tradition.

This Thursday is commended for the parliamentary institutional reform issues – allocation of posts in committees pursuant to the D’Hondt method and correlation between the numbers of parliamentary committees and ministries of the Cabinet.

There will also be considered a set of bills on the national security and defence.

On Nord Stream 2

Andriy Parubiy: It is my strong belief the Parliament ought to deliver a resounding and swift rebuff to the construction of the Nord Stream 2.

A.Parubiy stressed that he had already initiated the corresponding statement and called the parliaments’ chairmen of the neighboring states to support it. “The statement, which warns the EU countries on the construction of the North Stream 2, was seconded by the speakers of Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Poland and Estonia”.

The politician is convinced that the Stream is a real threat not only to the energy security of Ukraine, but also to the energy security of the whole Europe.

On national security and defence law

The bill is hoped to be adopted by the core committee on Wednesday, according to the Chairman.

"I hope that this Wednesday we will be able to reach a positive decision, which will spur the bill’s submission to the session hall for consideration by the Parliament," he said, speaking to the journalists on Monday.

The Chairman then said that the ad hoc working group had already completed its work on the bill.

On Central Election Commission

He confirmed that twelve of the fourteen members of the Central Election Commission have already passed the security vetting. For two appointees, the documents have been returned for clarification. The need to choose 13 of the fourteen candidates presented was called the only problem.
