Within the 6th Euronest Parliamentary Assembly session, there was a meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy at the premises of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The participants approved the minutes of the joint sitting of the Committee on Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy and Committee on Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Civil Society held in Brussels on March the 23th, 2017.
They also exchanged their views on the Eastern Partnership prospects in the run-up to the Summit scheduled for November 24, 2017 in Brussels.
There were several presentations during the meeting. A contributor from the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Knut Fleckenstein delivered recommendations to the European Council, the European Commission and the European External Action Service as to the Eastern Partnership in view of the Summit scheduled for November 24, 2017 in Brussels.
The Eastern Partnership Director of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) Lawrence Meredith reported on the progress in implementation of the Priority II “Strengthening Institutions and good governance” of the Joint Staff Working Document “Eastern Partnership - Focusing on key priorities and deliverables”. The document aims to identify 20 key deliverables for 2020, intended to contribute to the joint work of EU Member States and EaP Partner countries (June 9, 2017).
An international
elections consultant Holly Ruthfauff from the European Parliament’s Committee
on Foreign Affairs presented a report on election reforms in Ukraine, Georgia
and Moldova, and their impact over the political life in these countries.
The meeting participants exchanged their views over the election reforms in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova and how they influence on strengthening of local democracy, reviewed the amendments and approved a draft committee report “Support to media freedom and integrity in the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries”.
