Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy: Giving Ukraine lethal weapons by the USA is to be seen as a strong anti-aggression signal in opposing a breach of the world order
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine A. Parubiy extended his thanks to the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker at their Friday meeting for his “extremely significant contribution to support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”. “Transatlantic unity is of great importance to us along with the support of Ukraine astride the ocean. Your own standpoint is also utterly significant to us, particularly given your visit in person to the east of Ukraine, having a chance to behold the Russian aggression aftermath with your own eyes,” he stressed.
The Ukraine’s east situation, the would-be UN peacekeeping mission deployment and its aspects, a legal background for Ukraine’s reforms, and other pressing issues of the current agenda of the country were also well discussed in the meeting.
Recently, the Ukrainian price for the Russian aggression in the country’s east has gotten its rise. The past two months have reportedly brought it ten men killed and seventy odd servicemen wounded in action, with 162 overall casualties since the start of the year. “Russia keeps on building up its military potential near the border, going ahead with edifying the military bases in Boguchary, Voronezh oblast, and Valuiki, Belgorod oblast,” he added. “We do have reasons to assert Putin is persistently pursuing his policy of overt aggression, having the slightest volition for any stand change”. Gladly taken by the Chairman was the new portion of the US sanctions affecting this time the energy sector of the Russian Federation, confirming thereby the firm stance of the USA on the issue.
A.Parubiy underscored Ukraine together with Central and Eastern European countries are standing flatly against the Nord Stream 2 development. “Our points of view are at one – we are presently in co-writing a letter up to the European Parliament and the USA, requesting to drop out of the project and lay the Stream off”.
Taking over the deadly arms is a move of great political significance to Ukraine since it is seen as an open manifestation of global unity in opposing the aggression and infringement of the world order, not only the military reinforcement.
Kurt Volker, in turn, has emphasized he is glad to cooperate in restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also said his heart goes out to those Ukrainian soldiers who were killed, and confirmed that “not a frozen clash is there in Ukraine. The country is undergoing a hot war spin, devouring lives weekly”.
The U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations once again pointed out “there is not an interethnic or internal conflict in Ukraine. One could easily see there is a Russian encroachment and occupation”, and it is needful to seek ways to slake the turbulence down.
Today’s Ukraine is more unified than ever before in the days of independence, more west-oriented, more a success – and all the aforesaid is important by-products of the Russian aggression. Russia is about to comprehend, K.Volker said, the offensive against Ukraine brings the blowback, the price the aggressor is paying for the attack will not change – the sanctions will not be revoked, the international assistance will not dwindle, the tainted reputation is on hold, relations with Europe and America are affected, the outgoings will not go down.
Having rated the Parliament’s recent work over the reformative laws favorably, the U.S. Special Representative pointed out “there is still plenty of work to do, however a range of great strides have already been made”.
The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament named the autumn 2017 “the autumn of success”, having lime-lighted the great role of the Parliament in reforming the country.
He also reminded of the large-scale education, pension, medical and judicial reforms which had been approved within the past two months. “Some European faultfinders are given to a persistent criticizing the pace the reforms are advancing here but I’d ask them to name one more country capable of pulling through such a sizeable challenge in so short span of time. I do fancy the Parliament works well and concordantly, overcoming the biggest challenges”.
K.Volker marked
out important changes in different industries of the Ukrainian economic life and
stressed Ukrainians need to quicken the process – to better the business
climate, to lure more foreign investments and capital, to create additional
employment and fight corruption.
In K.Volker’s opinion, on-site monitoring of the border security with Russia as well as alongside the frontline, withdrawal of heavy weaponry to arms caches, and observing a truce could become a large stride ahead. He also wished to make Ukraine a great, strong and sustained country.
