In the framework of his official visit A.Parubii, the Chairperson of the Parliament of Ukraine met Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia. The parties had vivid talks over stepping up and strengthening of the inter-parliamentary bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The chairperson accented that ‘our relations’ capacity is far from being exhausted, and the political will is solely responsible for a yet closer collaboration’. The parties had a unified standpoint that both countries were at one in their struggling for independence and they ‘go shoulder to shoulder’.
Andrii Parubii noted that Ukraine ‘does remember those Georgian patriots who made the supreme sacrifice on the Maidan, in eastern Ukraine in the fights for Ukraine’s independence, as they all knew our independence meant Georgia’s independence, and that desire for freedom was and is universal’.
A.Parubii announced his initiative to establish a tripartite Ukraine-Georgia-Moldova inter-Parliamentary assembly, which had already been backed by the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. ‘This idea was by general consent propped up in the Ukrainian Parliament,’ added he.
The Chairperson also informed his colleague of the Verkhovna Rada’s collaboration with the EU parliaments on North-South integration, teamwork with the countries and pooling of infrastructural capabilities of the Baltic-Black Sea and the Caspian Sea nations.
‘Launch of this triple assembly boosts our regions’ integration,’ he concluded.
Irakli Kobakhidze confirmed Georgia’s unwavering support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also backed the ‘triple assembly’ idea, having stressed same strong tensions in relations with Russia. The Georgian parliamentary chairman commended the NATO PA’s importance, and the support the Alliance had been rendering to our countries.
