At the evening meeting of the Ukrainian Parliament on Thursday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, provided details on the case against Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Vadim Novinsky.

Andriy Parubiy reminded that on November 4, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko recommended that the Ukrainian legislature provide its consent for bringing MP Novinsky to justice.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed that immediately he sent the recommendation to the Committee on Rules of Parliamentary Procedure and Support to Work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. "Now the Committee has not more than 20 days to provide its conclusion on the case as well as to table it for consideration in the Ukrainian Parliament," Parubiy said.

Andriy Parubiy stated that a day earlier the Committee failed to approve the decision and put the recommendation of the Prosecutor General to vote at the Ukrainian legislature.

He noted that November 24 is the deadline for receiving the conclusions of the Committee members and added that in compliance with Section 3 of Article 220 of the Verkhovna Rada Regulations, the Committee requested the PGO to provide additional materials in the Novinsky's case for detailed familiarization with it.

Andriy Parubiy noted that in compliance with Section 5 of Article 220 the 20-day period allocated for the Committee is suspended until it receives respective reply from the PGO. "Thus, I call on the Prosecutor General of Ukraine to speed up provision of the Committee with those materials," he said. Parubiy added he urged the Committee to immediately convene required meeting after it receives the materials from the PGO.

Addressing the members of the Committee Andriy Parubiy emphasized that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's only task is to allow or not bringing the MP to justice.

He addressed the parliamentarians, who left the session hall and asked them to get back to work as no consideration is possible without respective decision of the Committee.
