On Sunday, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii told the Inter TV channel: "the law allowing appointment of a person having a higher education degree and not necessarily a degree in law is not the law adopted for one particular person." He reminded that several weeks ago the Ukrainian Parliament adopted the amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On prosecutor's office" in compliance with the requirements of the European Union. Then the amendments invalidated the term that obliged a Specialized Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office member candidate to have at least five years of working experience in prosecutor's office bodies.
Parubii noted that the lifting of the term was in line with the general concept of the staff recruitment: "To let us involve active people, even the anti-terrorist operation participants in management, especially in the law enforcement bodies." "Thus, the law lifting the restrictions for the prosecutor general candidates must be adopted as it is a good law. We need this law to bring in new people, a person new for this system, a person able to develop it. The prosecutor's office along with the courts is one of the most corrupted systems," he added.
Speaking about the candidacy for the post of the prosecutor general, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii said: "I will support [the candidacy of] Yurii Lutsenko, when the issue is on Verkhovna Rada agenda." "Yurii Vitaliovych [Lutsenko] has come through Maidan and the Revolution of Dignity. Behind the bars he experienced all the weaknesses of this penal system. He is one of those, who deeply understand the processes taking place inside of the prosecutor's office. I will support him as I am confident that he will be able to change the status quo in the prosecutor's office," he said.
