Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stresses that the Verkhovna Rada of the seventh convocation, which terminates its powers early, shall "adopt amendments to the Law on elections and grant an opportunity to every Ukrainian patriot, who is now defending Ukraine with weapons in their hands, to vote".
Oleksandr Turchynov mentioned this in his speech on Thursday.
In his words, the main task of the current Parliament is to ensure the right of every Ukrainian "to exercise their right of choice, to give their vote to the future of Ukraine".
"I especially stress that today we are to ensure the right of choice for those patriots – military men, soldiers of volunteer battalions and of the National Guard – who are now defending Ukraine and its territorial integrity with weapons in their hands", he said. "These are people who risk their lives every minute to protect Ukraine. We, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, shall ensure their fundamental constitutional rights to vote".
Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada reminded that on October 14 due to provocateurs who started a fight near the Verkhovna Rada, people's deputies did not manage to adopt all the planned laws, particularly, amendments to the electoral legislation which ensure the right of military men, who are now defending the country, to vote.
Therefore, Oleksandr Turchynov said that he initiated holding an extraordinary plenary meeting on October 20 where respective amendments to the legislation will be considered.
"I emphasize that it is deputies' obligation to make everything possible so that Ukrainian soldiers could exercise their right to choose the future for their country", stressed the Chairperson of the Parliament.
