"Democracy and corruption are incompatible", claimed Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov at the Tuesday morning plenary meeting before considering the anti-corruption package of reforms in the second reading.
After adopting the Law of Ukraine re determining ultimate beneficiaries of legal persons and public figures, Oleksandr Turchynov stated that according to the law, "all offshore accounts and companies which are used to cover privatization, impropriation of immovable property and other assets shall identify the main beneficiary".
In his words, adoption of this law disables the opportunity "to hide the real owner of immovable property or mass media". Oleksandr Turchynov is sure that this legislative act will promote transparency of economic system "so that corruptionists could not hide behind the offshore structures".
