On April 28, the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation held a meeting with the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Skupština (Parliament) of Serbia.
The event took place via videoconference and was chaired by Committee Chair Oleksandr Merezhko and Deputy Speaker and Committee Chair Maryna Ragush.
The main topic of the meeting was the security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine. Discussions focused on the consequences of shelling of energy infrastructure during the winter and the sanctions policy toward the aggressor state.
The committee representatives also discussed economic and military-technical assistance to Ukraine from its partners, particularly regarding the protection of airspace, a ceasefire, and a peaceful settlement.
The participants paid special attention to the European integration of Ukraine and Serbia and the prospects for EU accession, the development of bilateral cooperation and interparliamentary dialogue, including the exchange of delegation visits.
Committee Chair Oleksandr Merezhko expressed his gratitude to his Serbian colleagues for their assistance in restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s accession to NATO as an effective guarantee of security.
On the Ukrainian side, the meeting was attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament, Subcommittee Chair Mariia Ionova, Committee Member Iryna Gerashchenko, and Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia Oleksandr Lytvynenko.
