At the end of last week, the representatives of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Security, Defence and Intelligence held a substantive meeting with their colleagues from the Defence Committee of the newly elected Dutch Parliament.
“Our dialogue is a clear coordination of efforts to achieve a technological advantage on the battlefield and ensure long-term support,” noted Committee Chair Oleksandr Zavitnevych.
The Ukrainian side expressed sincere gratitude to the people and Government of the Netherlands for their leadership in strengthening Ukraine’s skies. The Patriot systems provided by partners save lives and protect critical infrastructure every day.
During the meeting, the parties paid particular attention to the PURL and JUMPSTART initiatives, which are critical for maintaining the combat readiness of Ukraine’s air defense systems. Continued Dutch support for the PURL initiative in the future is important for Ukraine.
“The dynamics of assistance from the Netherlands demonstrate steady growth: from $1.1 billion in 2022 to over $6 billion in 2025. The structure of support is becoming increasingly diversified: from artillery ammunition and F-16 maintenance to direct financing of the Ukrainian defense industry,” the Committee Chair reported.
In addition, the parties discussed new legislation adopted by Ukraine, taking into account its unique experience in repelling aggression, particularly in the cyber domain and in implementing NIS2 standards. Special attention was given to legislative initiatives on the creation of the Cyber Forces as a separate branch of the armed forces.
“Our Dutch colleagues highly appreciated our experience and showed particular interest in the mechanisms of parliamentary oversight and the specifics of defense budget planning under conditions of full-scale war,” said Oleksandr Zavitnevych.
The Ukrainian side called on their Dutch colleagues to support Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression and noted that our country counts on the pledged additional assistance throughout 2026.
“The Netherlands remains one of our most reliable allies. We are working together to ensure that every euro invested in defense turns into a real technological advantage on the frontline,” concluded the Committee Chair.
