On March 24, Chair and members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation took part in the meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Irish Parliament.

The event was held via video conference, chaired by John Lahart, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Irish Parliament, and Oleksandr Merezhko, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation.

Ukrainian parliamentarians briefed their Irish colleagues on the current security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine, the situation regarding military and civilian prisoners of war in russia and their return from captivity, the return of Ukrainian children to their homes, the situation regarding internally displaced persons in Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens abroad, the shelling of civilian infrastructure by the aggressor state, as well as russia’s nuclear blackmail and the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of reforms during martial law, the fight against corruption, Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration prospects, the peace process and achieving a ceasefire, the development of bilateral cooperation, and participation in the economic reconstruction of our country.

Committee Chair Oleksandr Merezhko expressed his gratitude to the Irish colleagues for their continued comprehensive support of Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity as well as for recognising the importance of strengthening sanctions policy  against the aggressor state, in particular "shadow fleet" and Rosatom.

Representing Ukraine at the meeting were members of the Ukrainian Parliament, including Yelyzaveta Yask, Chair of the Subcommittee, Iryna Herashchenko, a member of the Committee, and Larysa Herasko, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Ireland.
