The Ukrainian delegation has begun active work at the PACE winter session. This was announced by PACE Vice-President Mariia Mezentseva-Fedorenko, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration with the European Union.
According to her, one of the central resolutions of the session will concern Ukraine — «Supporting the commitment to comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine and the security of the European continent.»
The author of the document is Piero Fassino, a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies (the lower house of the Italian parliament) and a member of the Italian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). «He visited Ukraine to write the document,» Mariia Mezentseva-Fedorenko said.
She also said that PACE had approved the composition of the platform of democratic forces in russia, which will operate within the Assembly. «I would like to remind you that our delegation did not support this idea from the outset and did not vote for the resolution,» the PACE Vice-President stressed.
Mariia Mezentseva-Fedorenko noted that during the PACE winter session, the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation will focus the attention of the European community on the creation of a tribunal for russian aggressors, the development of a compensation mechanism for affected citizens, and the use of frozen russian assets for compensation and the establishment of justice.
It is worth noting that today, Petra Bayr, a member of the Austrian Parliament, was elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe — only the fifth woman to hold this position in the history of PACE.
«Last year, Petra agreed to my proposal to become a mentor to Iryna Danylovych, a Ukrainian citizen journalist and human rights activist who is currently in a russian prison. I believe that under Petra's leadership, PACE will remain a strong voice for justice, support for Ukraine and the protection of European values and human rights,» said Yevheniia Kravchuk, member of Ukraine's permanent delegation to PACE and deputy chair of the Committee on Human Rights and Democratic Society.
