The Verkhovna Rada has once again supported the decision of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to extend the legal regime of martial law and general mobilisation in Ukraine for 90 days, i.e. until 4 May 2026.

According to Yehor Cherniev, Member of Parliament, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and member of the Servant of the People political party, this is necessary in the current situation, as the aggressor country is not taking any steps to end the war.
«Despite all the efforts of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and our country as a whole to achieve peace with the russian federation, we see that the aggressor does not want this. This is evidenced by the strikes on our critical infrastructure, on our cities, and the occupiers are trying to put more and more pressure on the front lines. That is why we are living under martial law, and its continuation is necessary for our central executive bodies and military administrations to function. Currently, the Verkhovna Rada has extended both martial law and mobilisation for three months,» the politician noted.

He stressed that if peace is achieved before the legal regime of martial law expires, the Verkhovna Rada can cancel it at any time.

It should be recalled that the parliament has voted for the 18th time in a row on bills extending martial law and general mobilisation in Ukraine.
