On 31 October, the Committee on State Administration, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning held a round table discussion on the topic: «Election campaigns abroad: international practice and recommendations for Ukraine,» dedicated to the issue of conducting election campaigns abroad.
During the event, participants were introduced to a comprehensive study by International IDEA on «Legal norms and practices for conducting campaigns outside the country in 27 member states of the European Union,» which provided a comparative analysis of the rules for campaigning in other countries and systematised relevant international practices.
•challenges of communication and political integration of the diaspora;
•legal responsibility and mechanisms for controlling campaigning outside the country;
•the capabilities of the Politdata platform in controlling the financing of election campaigns abroad;
•prospects for developing relevant legislative initiatives, taking into account best European practices and experience.
The discussion was attended by members of the Ukrainian parliament, representatives of the National Agency for Corruption Prevention, the Central Election Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, political parties, domestic and international non-governmental organisations, academics and experts.
The event was held with the assistance and support of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the National Agency for Corruption Prevention, the All-Ukrainian Public Organisation «Civil Network “OPORA”, the public organisations «Centre for Political and Legal Reforms» and «Chesno Movement».
