The delegation of the global parliamentary network United4Ukraine, which visited Ukraine on 24-25 August, issued a statement in support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. In the statement, United4Ukraine members - members of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and European Affairs Committees of the EU and NATO parliaments, representatives of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe - stressed that they support Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity in accordance with the internationally recognised borders of 1991.
The parliamentarians stated that they are ready to use all measures to put an end to russia's unprovoked, unjustified, terrorist and illegal war against Ukraine. They stressed that any negotiations to end the war must include clear, credible and legally binding guarantees, and that governments willing to accept these guarantees should submit concrete proposals by the end of this month.
The signatories called on parliaments around the world to urgently adopt resolutions reaffirming that the territories of Ukraine occupied by russia can never be recognised either de jure or de facto, and that no restrictions on Ukraine's sovereignty, domestic or foreign policy, including its right to choose its alliances, can be accepted. "We recognise that the security of Ukraine and the transatlantic community is indivisible," the statement reads.
In the document, the MPs also raised the issue of Ukraine's European integration. They called for the opening of the first negotiation cluster on Ukraine's accession to the EU in early September. Further, to continue the work so that by the end of this year Ukraine fulfils all the conditions and starts membership negotiations, and by 1 January 2030, it becomes a full member of the EU.
They also called for the confirmation of Ukraine's NATO membership roadmap with a clear timeframe. In their view, Allies should significantly increase defence spending and strategically invest in strengthening Ukraine.
Parliamentarians insist on extending and strengthening sanctions against russia to limit its ability to wage war. The sanctions should target russia's military-industrial complex, energy, metallurgy, nuclear and chemical industries, IT and financial sectors. The authors of the statement called for strengthening russia's international isolation, making it impossible for any international institutions to use it to legitimise its aggression against Ukraine.
The United4Ukraine members stressed the need to support and invest in Ukraine's recovery: to provide emergency assistance for urgent needs, implement rapid recovery and modernisation projects, make humanitarian demining a priority, and support the rapid return of people to their communities.
The parliamentarians also called on the Ukrainian authorities to strengthen the national policy of cohesion and democracy, support political and media pluralism, constructive dialogue, and democratic principles.
