On June 2-4 the 52nd Regional European Interpol conference in Athens, Greece was held. As a result, Ukraine was re-elected to the Interpol European Committee, an advisory body that sets the agenda and strategic priorities for the organisation's activities in the European region.
It should be noted that Ukraine has been elected to the Interpol European Committee for a four-year term for the second time in a row.
Ukraine has been a member of the Interpol European Committee since 2021 and has made a significant contribution to its work. Thus, at the initiative of Ukraine, the 49th European Regional Conference adopted Recommendation No. 5, which called on member states to strengthen cooperation in the investigation of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
The acting head of the Department of International Police Cooperation, head of the Interpol-Ukraine National Centre for the Prevention of Corruption, police colonel Ivan Gulpa, took part in the election campaign on behalf of Ukraine.
Ukraine in cooperation with other members of Interpol European Committee has been actively promoting the role of Interpol in responding to international crimes and working to develop mechanisms that would allow full use of Interpol's mandate in the investigation of war crimes.
The National Police of Ukraine noted that Ukraine's participation in the Interpol European Committee allows it to systematically promote the principles of accountability and prevention of impunity for the most serious international crimes - especially in a context where neutrality can become an excuse for inaction.
Ukraine has unique experience in conducting police operations in wartime, countering hybrid and transnational threats, countering cyberattacks and data protection.
The re-election of Ukraine is an additional opportunity for our country to influence the adoption of important decisions related to regional security, standards of cooperation and priorities in the fight against crime in Europe.
