From May 23 to 26, a regular session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly was held in Dayton, USA, with the participation of the Ukrainian delegation led by Yehor Cherniev, Head of Ukraine’s Permanent Delegation to the NATO PA and Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.

Yehor Cherniev noted that although this session was largely dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Accords, which marked the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ukrainian delegation succeeded in bringing the question of the war in Ukraine back to the agenda. The session featured key addresses on the situation in Ukraine, including a speech delivered by Yehor Cherniev himself.

The most important outcome of the session was the adoption of a declaration on Ukraine, which reaffirms several key positions critical for our country:

– the need to intensify sanctions pressure on the russian federation;

 – the expansion and acceleration of military assistance to Ukraine;

 – support for funding Ukraine’s defense industry;

 – confirmation of the irreversibility of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course.

«This is one of the strongest NATO Parliamentary Assembly declarations on Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion,» noted Yehor Cherniev.

In addition, during the session, Yehor Cherniev publicly addressed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte with a question regarding an invitation for Ukraine to attend the NATO Summit in The Hague this June, as well as the possible convening of a meeting of the NATO–Ukraine Council within its framework. While a definitive answer has not yet been provided, the Secretary General confirmed that work in this direction is ongoing.

«We hope to receive a clear signal from the Summit — both regarding the irreversibility of Ukraine’s path toward NATO membership and the reaffirmation that russia holds no veto power over the Alliance’s decisions,» Yehor Cherniev summed up.
